SAP FICO - Organisation Structure
The SAP FICO organizational structure is the backbone of financial accounting and controlling in SAP. It defines how a company’s financial data is organized, reported, and managed. Here are the key components:
-
Client: The highest level in SAP, representing an independent organizational unit (e.g., a corporation). All other structures exist within a client.
-
Company Code: The central unit in Financial Accounting (FI). Each company code represents a separate legal entity for which complete financial statements (balance sheet, P&L) can be prepared.
-
Controlling Area: Used in Controlling (CO) for internal reporting and cost accounting. It can cover one or multiple company codes, enabling consolidated management reporting.
-
Chart of Accounts (CoA): A structured list of all general ledger accounts. Defines how transactions are recorded and reported across company codes.
-
Business Area: Represents different lines of business or geographical segments within a company code. Useful for segment reporting.
-
Profit Center: Internal unit responsible for revenue and cost tracking. Enables profitability analysis by product line, division, or region.
-
Fiscal Year Variant: Defines the start and end of the fiscal year and the number of posting periods. Assigned to company codes for consistent reporting.
